IoT (Internet of Things)
IoT stands for Internet of Things. IoT means that connecting things and all the goods to the internet so that they can share data and could connect with each other as humans did. It connects the different things by the means of internet. Sensors are also used in IoT, sensors are used because they help a device to know various kinds of things Like - about its Temperature, its humidity, about its light, about its position etc.

1. What is IoT?
IoT stands for Internet of Things. if you will break all its words you will find that IoT's full form is mainly consisted of two words. first one is Internet and Second One is Things. Internet means the network of networks where everyone is connected to each other and with the world. and the Things Means the matter and the matter means everything that we see around us.
So, Now these Things are connected with the internet so that they could share data with each other, communicate with each other and probably could connect with each other.
Lets, consider a Example here, Nowadays you have seen various kinds of smart AC's. which could on automatically as the user comes and could off automatically as the user goes out of the room. it could know the temperature that is outside the room and after knowing outside's temperature it could probably customize the room temperature for the user automatically. So, this is the biggest use case of IoT.
2. Types of IoT -:
Now, Mainly there are two types of IoT. we will read them one by one.
2i. CIoT -:
CIoT stands for Consumer Internet of Things. The Internet of Things as it relates to consumer applications, use cases, and devices is referred to as consumer IoT or CIoT. In simple Terms CIoT means all the devices or smart devices which are used by users or consumers. Like on the previous topic we took an example about the smart AC's so smart AC is a thing which works for the user and helps them.
2i. IIoT -:
A network of interconnected industrial equipment is referred to as the "Industrial Internet of Things," or IoT. It belongs to the Internet of Things' subgroup (IoT). The fact that linked devices on IIoT networks send data without interacting with other connected equipment or people is their defining feature. Gateways are physical servers that filter data and deliver it to other connected devices and software programmes. These servers enable communication between connected devices.
3. How IoT Works?
Now lets, come one the topic How does IoT works actually? first we should now that all those devices in which IoT is implemented are known as Smart devices. So, lets take an example of Smart Watch, all though there are so many functions of the smart Watches, but their some of the main function is that monitoring the health conditions of whole body and especially hearts, counting the steps of the user, calling to some other persons and many more.
So for implementing these features on the smart watches many types of Sensors are used in it, Like for
monitoring the heart conditions a sensor named Optical heart rate sensor is used in the watch, and for
counting the steps Step counter sensor is used in the watch.
So, Sensors are the most important thing for implementing IoT Technology on the devices. and then the data
that the sensor gives is send to the
Cloudserver (An Internet-based network—typically the Internet—is used to host and
offer a pooled, centrally located server resource known as a cloud server, which various users can use as
needed) and after the data is sended from the cloud-server it will come to our mobile app or application (if
our watch is connected with the mobile then only we could see the details on the mobile).
4. Its Pros and Cons -:
There are too many advantages of Iot but their are disadvantages also of IoT in this topic we are going to read about the Advantages and Disadvantages of IoT. So, let's discuss it.
4i. Its Pros -:
- IoT makes a device automatic which saves a lot of time of user.
- IoT makes our work very easy to do and monitor. Like if you have a smart Watch it will measure all your health conditions time by time and you will not have to go the doctor regularly for Body Checking, it will measure your body's temperature from which you will not have to buy a thermometer to check your temperature. it will count your steps n=and you can check all this report in your mobile only.
- We can control a lots of things even fromm a far distance like if you have a mobile app which is connected to your house and to everything in the house it will connect to your mobile and you could customise your home from your mobile also.
- IoT reduces human efforts.
4i. Its Cons -:
- Since, devices would be connected to the internet and so, hackers could hack these devices also, because whatever is connected with the internet could be hacked or traced.
- It can happen that on the time when you are on emergency on something your internet could become slow at that point of time and so, you wouldn't get the device updates at that time.
- It is very difficult to plan, build, manage, and enable a broad technology to IoT framework.
- If everything would be connected to the internet and becomes automatic we wouldn't move a single step for anything and this would increase our body's fat.
- Health & Fitness
- Home Security
- Transport
- Shopping
- Smart Cities
5. Its Applications -:
As, on coming time everything would be connected to the internet and become automatic and everything would have their uses, but some of the main applications of IoT are given below -:
1. Health & Fitness -: In todays Time there are a lot of devices which measure our heart rate and and check your health status and prefer us the medicine which we needed on current time and all these information can be seen by mobiles(on their applications). Ex- Fitbit, JawBone, Nike etc.
2. Home Security -: We could use IoT for the security our home also. we could add those types of cameras which would automatically open the gate for a authorized user but for a unauthorized user it would not open the gate.
Home Security could also by done by various means via the use of IoT. we can establish these types types of locks in main boxes which are connected to gate's camera of the house and even the thief is enable to come inside the room and reach's the box after getting escape from camera then gates's camera will directly send this data to the lock and the lock will be disabled for sometime, it will also not open by the main key until the thief will try it. So, that's the power of IoT.
3. Transport -: IoT could also be used in transport, and the main use in the automobiles in transport could be driverless cars (means those cars which could automatically drives). and all those cars should be controlled by our mobile phones.
4. Shopping -: In case of shopping we should use IoT for making smart almiras who himself knows that which cloth or how much quantity is needed for the user and himself buys it online.
5. Smart Cities -: It is one of the main application or use of IoT we should make smart Surveillance for our cities, smart banking systems, smart energy systems etc.
6. FAQs
What does IoT stands for and who is known as father of IoT?
IoT stands for Internet of Technology and Kevin Ashton is known as the father of IoT.
Does IoT devices uses sensors on it?
Yes IoT devices use sensors on it so that they can get the data about the device like about its temperature and motion etc.
Which company has invested most on IoT and how much?
Aremis has invested most on IoT by $300 million.
7. Conclusion
So, after reading this article you will realize that on coming time everything will be automated and you and i could do everything without moving a single step and just from our mobile, in that time our first priority should be our health of hole body so, that we could not get diseases.
