Zigbee Technology means Creating that type of network system in which low powered devices (which only understands low powered protocol) could also easily connect with the high powered protocol named as HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) and could also transfer their information to other devices that are connected to high power protocol.

1. Few Terminologies

1. Internet -: Internet means the network of networks. Internet is the example of WWW (World Wide Web). it simply means that all the computers, mobile phones and every machine and all persons are connected to each other because of the internet. Today everything we do is because of that internet only, we can talk to each other from far distances also, we can buy anything from our home, we can study at our home also. So, all these are the uses of internet.

2. Protocol -: Protocol is a set of rules and regulations. Whenever a computer sends the data/information to the other computer it follows some of the basic rules and that rules are known as protocol. 3. Low and High-power device -: When we will read about the Zigbee technology we will see a term named low and high-power device. this means that low-power device will only understand low-power protocol (Ex- Zigbee Protocol) and high-power device will only understand high-power protocol (Ex- HTTP protocol).





2. What is Zigbee Technology

Zigbee Technology means creating that type of network in which low powered devices which only understands low power protocol could also connect with the high-powered protocol and could share the data or information.

Let's, understand this terminology with an example, suppose that you are an Indian and you only know Hindi language and you have to do a business meeting with an English person about any important information and that English person only understand English language. So, how could you communicate to that person. So, you set a google translator between you and that English person and google translator will change English to Hindi for you and Hindi to English for that English man and after this you could easily contact to anyone.

3. How does Zigbee Works

Let's, understand how does Zigbee Technology works? First you take a look on the image that i had provided below.

Here, in the Image A Zigbee network is created in which only low-power protocol is understood in this network and all the low power devices are connect to a certain device which is known as Zigbee Router and that Zigbee Router is connected to a certain device which is known as Zigbee Coordinator (Zigbee coordinator perform the most important function and that is it converts Zigbee protocol in to the HTTP protocol and send it to the internet and HTTP protocol into Zigbee Protocol and send it to Zigbee network). and that zigbee coordinator is connected to the internet. and that's how low-powered devices are able to understand high-powered protocols also.

We have understood that how Zigbee Technology works. Now let's understand some of its amin terms Like - Zigbee Router, Coordinator etc.





4. Zigbee Router -:

Zigbee Router is a device in Zigbee Network. All the low powered devices are connected to Zigbee Router. It passes the data between Zigbee coordinator and all the devices. It transfers the data of low power devices to Zigbee coordinator and gets the data from Zigbee coordinator and sends it to all low-power devices.

Routers are in charge of directing traffic between various nodes. A router might not sleep. Thus, routers are not a good option for battery-powered devices. Messages meant for their children must also be received and stored by routers. Moreover, routers serve as the network's entry points. They are in charge of approving network membership for new nodes.





5. Zigbee Coordinator -:

Zigbee Coordinator is also an another important part of Zigbee Technology. The coordinator is in charge of creating the network in addition to all of the router's functions. It must choose the proper channel, PAN ID, and extended network address to do that. It is also in charge of deciding on the network's security mode.

Without Zigbee coordinator low powered devices will not be able to get the data from high-power Protocols. it works like an google translator. For low power devices it converts high power protocol (HTTP and SMTP) into low power Protocol (Zigbee) from which low power devices could understand it, and for high power devices it converts low power protocol (Zigbee) into High power Protocol (HTTP and SMTP). 6. Its Applications -:

So, Now in this section we are going to read about the real life applications of Zigbee Technology. As there are many applications of Zigbee but we are going to read about some of the prominent ones. So lets, read it -:

1. Zigbee technical information -: An IEEE 802.15.4-based standard called Zigbee is a high-level communication protocol. Personal area networks based on low- and small-power digital radio are constructed using these technologies. Zigbee technology, which is widely used for low data rate applications, offers a long battery life and great network security. Data may be sent over long distances with Zigbee devices by travelling through a mesh network from intermediary nodes. Only sight line distances up to 100 metres allow for the transmission of the low power feature.

2. Application of Zigbee Wireless Sensor Network in Smart Home System -: The main use of Zigbee is home automation. There are several limitations, however it may also be used in other situations. RF is also used by Zigbee for signalling and controlling functions. It was the company known as HomeRF Alliance that initially developed this technology. Now, Zigbee is managed by the Zigbee Alliance. Zigbee technology applications make it feasible to control your essential home appliances. Using Zigbee technology apps, you can manage and control your house lighting from anywhere. For instance, you may dim the light in the living area from inside your bedroom.

Another illustration would be to turn on every light in the house as you go up to the front door. Depending on your actions and the scenarios you create, the lighting settings may vary. Zigbee provides connection to the internet, allowing you to control equipment from anywhere in the world. If your smart home has internet connectivity, you can manage it with just a phone.

3. Zigbee Sensor Network Application for Data Monitoring and Acquisition -: Another use for Zigbee technology is data collection and monitoring. It may be a wireless, transportable answer to the problems with wired data collection and monitoring. In LabVIEW, Zigbee is the most popular and effective technology for wireless data collection and monitoring applications. Several small and large companies are working to provide improvements for the wireless network.
